Message from Catherine Goulet, Chair of the
2012 Next Generation Indie Book Awards
It has been another exceptional year for the Next Generation Indie Book Awards! Once again, I've been honored to serve as Chairperson of this prestigious awards program. Now in its 5th year of operation, the Next Generation Indie Book Awards has continued to grow in entries, popularity and interest. This year entries were up by more than 25% and the caliber of books entered was Outstanding making the judges' job of selecting a Winner and up to four Finalists in each category very challenging.
All of us at Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group are grateful to be part of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, the largest Not-for-Profit book awards program in the world, that continues to honor and recognize so many talented individuals within the independent book publishing industry. This year more than 60 cash prizes will be handed out totaling more than $12,000 and over 300 medals will be awarded to Winners and Finalists. I look forward to celebrating with a number of Winners and Finalists at the Gala Awards Ceremony being held at the world famous Plaza Hotel in NYC in June!
Judges of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards
We are blessed to have such a prestigious team of judges with almost all judges returning to judge year after year. The 2012 judges included expert editors (many having worked with major publishing houses including Simon & Schuster, Harper Collins, New American Library, Penguin Books, Putnan, New Bantam Books, Dell Publishing, and Avon Books) and designers, marketing gurus, book buyers, literary agents, book reviewers, publishing executives, writing professors, successful published authors, indie book publishing advocates and other leaders in the industry.
With an increase in entries, it was essential to increase our judging team once again. This year we were happy to welcome on board Lou Arnica, Beth Kallman Werner, Jennifer McCord, Kenneth Salzmann, and Leon A. Walker. A big thank you goes out to each of them along with each and every other judge on our extraordinary and talented judging team including Beth Bruno, C. Hope Clark, Charlotte Cook, Richard Cook, Emily Courtney, Peter Cyngot, Gareth Esersky, Mary Ellen Gavin, Sandi Gelles Cole, Tag Goulet, John McDougall, Brenna Pearce, Clayton Warholm, and the many other judges (who would prefer to remain anonymous) involved in the 2012 awards program.
Thank You and Congratulations to Entrants
A heartfelt thank you and congratulations goes out to all 2012 entrants! We were honored to have reviewed your books. Without you, this awards program would not exist.
Congratulations to all the Finalists and Winners and to the seven Grand Prize Winners. In June, the seven Grand Prize Winners will receive an elegant trophy, gold medal, and cash prize ranging from $250 - $1,500. Each of the 60 category Winners will receive a gold medal and $100 cash prize, while each Finalist will receive a silver medal.
Thank You to Our Partners and Sponsor
Thank you to Marilyn Allen and the Allen O'Shea Literary Agency for their partnership with the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Marilyn's highly respected expertise and background in the publishing industry along with her kind, generous and giving spirit towards indie authors and publishers has been an invaluable asset to the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. This year, when asked to comment about the awards program, Marilyn stated "I am honored to be part of this prestigious contest! I now represent several previous Winners and I am enjoying helping them with their publishing careers. Involvement in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards is one of the highlights in my professional career and it gives me great joy to help writers succeed! I look forward to reviewing the works of the 60 best candidates this year."
Thank you to FabJob Inc. for providing their continued support and for sponsorship of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. A huge thank you goes out to Shelley Anderson, Awards Co-ordinator, and Dave Brandt, Book and Judge Coordinator, who work tireless hours to ensure the success of the awards program.
We hope that all the books entered will receive all of the ongoing success and recognition that they deserve!
